Eney Meeny Miny Moe should not be the way you chose a place to store your items at a self-storage. The first thing to consider is what you are going to store and the quantity you are going to store. A very handy way to determine what unit size you are going to need is a storage calculator. Check out this free storage calculator on our Got Storage internet website: https://www.gotstorageyet.com/self-storage-calculator. This calculator gives you the ability to plug in your items and see the actual size of a storage unit that you need. This calculation is good to have before you call to see availability and reserve your storage unit. Another great indicator of a good establishment, a place you would feel comfortable keeping your items, is to read reviews online of the potential establishment you are interested in storing from. A great sign of a well-established place is great “real” reviews. It is sad to say companies are actually able to buy good reviews to increase your star standing on rating systems like Google, so with a little know how you will be able to tell if these were actual customers and are real clients by their other reviews and their locations. When the company that has an up to date and up to date sights and current good reviews, this is may give you a good indication of a reputable self-storage facility. At this point of your research, it would be a good idea to make a phone call to the storage facility. You may find many of the storage facilities have an answering machine rather than a human. There also has been a tremendous outpouring from other cities and even other states. There may be a point in your life that you may want to downsize or have some remodeling done in your home. To make room for the construction to take place, you may need to put the items in storage. There also may be the occasion when you are given furniture as part of an inheritance. In any circumstance you may need to store furniture you will want it to be preserved and kept in a place where no harm will come to the pieces. Here are a few suggestions: Before taking it to a storage facility treat the furniture. Disassemble furniture, if at all possible (get several baggies and label for easy reassembling) this will ensure you to make most use of you storage unit. Store in a climate-controlled storage facility. Got Storage has units available! Make sure when you are looking to rent a unit you get one with adequate room. Caution do not stack items on top of your furniture, this can lead to cracks in the furniture. Do not cover your furniture in plastic. This can cause condensation, and the moisture could cause damage and warping. A better option is thick moving blankets, or any cloth. This will help with dust and any damage if it was accidentally bumped. #1 LOOK UP: Remember that your storage unit is three-dimensional, so make sure you are using its height as well as the floor space. Bring in portable shelves so you can stack things up against the walls without worrying about them toppling over or making it difficult for you to get to the boxes on the bottom of the stack. Similarly, if you have a couch or other long piece of furniture, stack it on end – you’ll be amazed at how little floor space it takes up. #2 BREAK IT DOWN: If you’re planning on storing furniture, always break them down as much as possible. Take the legs off tables and disassemble bed frames. You’ll be shocked at how much space you can save. Massive tables will suddenly be just a few inches thick so you can lean them up against a wall, and they’ll take up just a fraction of the room they did before. Consider bundling the legs so you can keep them in one spot and won’t suddenly find yourself with a three-legged table. Any hardware you use – screws, washers and so forth – should be put in a marked plastic bag and taped or otherwise attached to the furniture. #3 USE UP ALL THE SPACE: You may be surprised by how much space you’re wasting by not utilizing the storage inside items that you store. Are you putting a chest of drawers in a storage unit? Your smaller items can be kept in the drawers. What about an oven or refrigerator? Pots and pans can be safely stored there, too. #4 LABEL EVERYTHING: Every single box in your storage unit should have a label on it. While you’re packing, it’s easy to tell yourself “I’ll reymember that my High School annuals were in the same box with my baby blankets and stuffed animals!” But after a few months or years, it’s highly unlikely you’ll have held on to that piece of trivia. Make life ...
We are impatiently looking for those trees to start budding and for the bright green leaves to appear on the bare trees…yes folks it is about to be Spring!! We also get the Spring fever and are determined to do our annual spring cleaning. This task may seem overwhelming at first, but if you will remember the adage, “How do you eat an elephant?”, the answer, “One bite at a time!” If you do this task in “bite size” amounts this can be accomplished. There are lots of ways to go about it, but the easiest is to set up three different bins (or boxes, whatever works): keep, toss and donate/sell. Keeping - Make sure when you do go to box up items that they are all the same size boxes and that they are properly labeled. At Got Storage, we do have the perfect size boxes for your spring cleaning! They also have a large distinct spot on the boxes for labeling the content of each box’s treasures. Not using grandma’s beautiful china and don’t want to sell it or donate it, we have ways you can preserve this part of your history. Securely store your glassware in the dish and glass kits available in the Got Storage Office. Toss - Make sure you wrap any glass items safely for garbage pickup. Look up your local rules and regulations if you are needing to throw away any hazardous items such as paints and cleaners. If cleaning dusty areas, you may need to purchase face mask to keep you healthy while cleaning. Donate/Sell - As you are going through your items and you determine it is something you are going to donate, remember the golden rule…“Do unto others as you would have them do unto you”. If the shirt is missing a button or the zipper doesn’t work on the jeans you are going to donate them, toss them! Also, a nice thing is to bag ...
